Questions about Amiibo card villagers

What would happen if you tried to scan a villager when they're already in your town, either as a random move-in or having been invited from another town?

Also, if a villager moved away, then you scanned their Amiibo card and invited them to move into your town, will they recognise you, or would your friendship start from the beginning?

If you scan in someone you already have, they can only give you a gift. and the second question, if you're really good friends then they'll say something like they feel at home or they've been there in another life.
