Questions about a 100% catalog

So I'm currently trying to get 100% on my catalog but I'm a little overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by comparing what I have in my Catalog to what's on MoriDB. It's a super long process and I'm still on clothes. Can't wait for furniture. Yay. Forgive me if some of the questions are redundant. I just want some general information. So, my questions are (for the people who have a 100% Catalog or are working on their catalog and/or anyone ftm):
1. Is this the way you did it (comparing from your game catalog to a website catalog?)
2. Is there a faster way?
3. Do I have to take in-account Gyroids and Streetpass Items for a 100% catalog? Or other items?
4. Did you use MoriDB as a reference or a different site and/or a mobile app?
5. Was there a process you did to acquire a 100% catalog?
6. Tip and/or tricks?

Also, I'm kinda paranoid that MoriDB is not a 100% accurate site with all the items in the game. If people can assure me that it is indeed a authentic site with all the items, that would be splendid and easy my paranoia.
Thank you for reading and taking the time to answer. It's much appreciated.

Yeeeah, I'm passionate about 100%-ing everything too. Maybe we should be friends?
FYI, I got the gold badge from Phineas at 80% complete. That leaves some wiggle-room for the unorderable/regional stuff, you don't need it all.
I do believe it counts everything that appears in your catalog at Nook's: Sahara, Snowman, Jack, Pascal, Gulliver and other NPC's items count toward your total. Streetpass items don't show up, they don't count. Tools, flowers, fruit don't count. Gyroids seem to count! (I hate digging up gyroids but I'm still missing four...)
I really really REALLY love moridb. Some of the thumbnail pictures are inaccurate (esp in clothes) but I'm sure the list of items is complete. In the beginning, when I was still missing most items, I had a print-out paper copy of the list and marked with pencil when I got something.
I actually joined the forum just to "catalog" other people's items. You know that you only have to pick up & drop an item to have it added to your catalog. I answered all the ads for "clearing out my locker" and "selling random items"...I always paid the selling price though. There is also Agiledog on the forum, she will order items for you but she is very very busy. And every time I streetpass someone, I go through every item in the HHA showcase house and compare it to my list.
....yeah, seeing it in writing makes me feel like a nutjob. X D

Gyroids appear in your catalog, but pictures and handheld items like tools and streetpass items don't. I completed my catalog (I think). I got most of the items by myself and then bought stuff like DLC on this site. Just setting up a buying thread doesn't work very well as you don't get many responses, so it is better to look at selling threads to see if people are selling stuff you need. You can also look at other people's buying threads and try to work out a trade with them instead of just selling items to them for bells. So basically, you have to be actively searching these forums frequently and trying to work out trades instead of just sitting back and hoping people will sell you stuff.

Moridb is a very good site. Completed 11 players catalogs using that site.
Added a each type of items and than added the items I was only missing. This makes it easier to find.
Started with clothing and than moved on to furniture. Dropped everything on the beach from a house and let all the players in town or from my other towns it catalog.
Than I used the dream suite to put everything back in place.

With my 2nd town the mayor bought items and than dropped it at the train station. Than my other players ran up and cataloged the items before selling or keeping them. It's handy to have extra players with a full catalog when you need to order.

Tip you can't remove music when a visitor is over. That one was a pain.

I use a spreadsheet that someone on reddit made.

here is the link. It keeps track of the % you already have in your catalog, and you can choose to use it for other things too (turnip prices, fossils, bugs, etc)

there used to be a site, http://animalcrossingnl.moo.com but its been down for quite a long time... if it ever starts working again it would definitely be my go-to for keeping track of my catalog.

I dont really like moridb but thats just my opinion.

I use an app called ACNL Guide on my iPhone. I'm not sure if it's available for android, but it's a very nice app! It only keeps track of one character/town, though. But ACNL Guide also keeps track of who lives in your town, their favorite coffee, lets you know when the next event or birthday is and can even give you push notifications about events. I highly recommend it!!!

Also something I recommend! I used it while my laptop was broken XD I love how it groups everything alphabetically so you don't have to scroll through like a million things just to find what you need. The push notifications are nice too. If onlyyyy it kept track of the % of my catalog I would keep using it! I do still use it for the notifications and such, but not for cataloging.

I have a spread sheet that I found online a few years ago. I used to keep better track of everything I had cataloged, but I pretty much gave up. I'll have to sit down one day & finally go through it & mark what I have so far.

I use the Android version. It is handy and has some tips on getting certain items. I highly recommended it as well. I just check off each item as I get it to save me frustration.

I too use the iPhone app for cataloguing. I love how you can organise it by not found. Comes in handy once you hit 80% but you still are trying to scratch that 100% completion itch. A criticism of the app is it doesn't include all the streetpass items, but they aren't part of your catalogue anyway so that's probably why they were omitted.

I found Thonky's list of items by source terribly useful as it helped me figure out when I could stop checking Gracie and the musuem daily and stop popping balloons as well as listing all the furniture I need to find in every event. But beware, I did discover an error in it. It lists the Propane Stove as coming from an igloo camper instead of a tent camper. I wasted several hours and many bells on igloo campers before getting suspicious and checking other sources. It's certainly wrong as I did eventually get a propane stove from a tent camper. http://www.thonky.com/animal-crossing-new-leaf/items-by-source

As for tips, make an effort to log in regularly just to check the shops. I don't have access to wireless internet so couldn't trade with people, but consistent effort of logging in regularly to check the shops meant I got to 80% in two years, despite two long breaks.

Also, for 100% completion make sure you donate every fossil, artwork, fish, sea creature and bug because there are items which only start appearing in the museum shop once the collection is complete. You'll also need to get the Gold HHA badge to get all the HHA items.

I made a document in Notes (so it's synced across my phone and my laptop) and just deleted things off of it as I got them.

Okay, the fastest way I'm completing my catalogs is completing small chunks at a time. I have three main catalogs.

- one for furniture I want/don't have (but i dont just go through and add everything I don't have, it gets overwhelming for people, like I said before, Small Chunks)
I have one for Furniture I have (ALL) that I put items i receive/pick up. Every few weeks I upgrade it, meaning I go through my furniture catalog @ Nooklings' and check off miscellaneous items I've maybe picked up or had been given as a gift from letters, or villagers.

- then I have a "pending trades" category. This is for items you've agreed to trade or purchase, but have yet to receive. they will often be checked off in your wish list for furniture as well.

The key is organization.

After I finish furniture, I plan on moving on to clothes and art.:D:lemon:

I like to keep track of the catalog by using this spreadsheet. It is really fantastic and has helped me with stuff like obtaining badges from Phineas. MoriDB could be useful, but you have more trouble with keeping on track.

As for tips, I suggest you should wait for a camper to come in. Provided that you have enough Bells, you have unlimited chances to obtain furniture from them by playing games. That has really helped me with my catalog process.

the very best ACNL guides I have found for accuracy and completeness are Liquefy's guides at gamefaqs.com.

I started out completing everything for my museum on my own. then i completed the furniture/item sets and series that I really liked on my own. then i focused on the unorderable furniture/item sets and series (fishign contests, island items, etc.) the hardest to get are the event/DLC/shop items from foreign versions of ACNL, you have to make trades for those to the extent some of them were never made available through DLC in the USA. I also got a lot of stuff from the HHA homes that I streetpassed-- some generous souls fill their HHA models with full sets of japanese/korean items that you otherwise wouldnt be able to get (such as the campus set, for example).

Once I obtained all of the above, then I checked with Liquefy's guides to see what I still needed. I was determined to get all of the TT Emporium items on my own, so I spent a ton of time trading with campers, my villagers, and time-travelling to re-load shop inventory each day. Same with the shoe/sock store, and the hat/accessory store, as those are shorter lists.

Next, I set up lists on moridb.com of what I still needed re clothing- i made separate Able Sisters lists and Gracie lists. I time traveled to get the Gracie stuff i lacked. for Able Sisters there was another forum where we had catalog parties and everyone ran all over the place picking up and dropping the clothing items needed to fulfill their catalogs. Same re music, went to some catalog parties for the KK albums.

I still havent obtained all the gyroids, and i don't have any of the unorderable stationery sets yet.

of course the fastest way to get everything is to just make trades for them via the website forums. the items that i broke down and did that for (other than catalog parties described above and foreign items/foreign DLC) were the last few Pave furniture items I needed, because I hate that crazy peacock and didnt want to do the event again; and some of the island items, because i reached a point where i was tired of club tortimer trolls getting in the way!

good luck, and have fun!!

Yes, same here! It's great and really handy across multiple devices when in cloud storage. Even got mine publicly visible though don't have the link shared in many places, lol.
