Question?

I tried looking on this board for an answer in case anyone else posted about it and if it's in the wrong spot I apologise.
I've got my game cartridge in a 2DS and it was dying so I quickly saved and switched it to my brothers 3DS, which I previously stole from his room cause he never uses it, and cause I couldn't get the charger from downstairs and risk the chance the dog we're looking after would wake up and whine. Back to the point, I put it into the 3DS and it had none of my data whatsoever so I quickly changed it back to my 2DS and loaded it up, not caring about the dying battery, just to make sure the town I'd created recently and was breeding flowers in and had my furniture somewhat sorted out, hadn't vanished. So my question is, what on earth happened? Am I being an idiot? A paranoid idiot? Is it because my brothers 3DS is idek how many years old and hasn't been used in god knows how many years so there's been no one to play it and update it etc?

I don't think his ds has anything downloaded, I think it literally only has the stuff that was on there originally cause all he ever used to play was that face raider game, whatever it's called, I'll have to take a proper look at it tomorrow and connect it to the Wi-Fi etc and see what it's deal is.

Is your cartridge a regular copy, or the welcome amiibo cartridge? If it is the old one, your savefile will not appear until the new 3ds has the update downloaded onto the SD card.
