How long before one villager moves out do you get a random move in?

Cheri got adopted yesterday and moved out, and I'm currently looking for a new villager to move in, but I'm scared of getting a random move in! One day has passed since she moved so far.

I don't have an exact answer, but from experience at 8 villagers I've had a new one move in less than a week later. For 9 villagers I've gone a month without any disturbance... usually if I haven't been wifi-ing I'll be safe from void move ins. I always get really paranoid at 8 or 9 villagers and open with a new save every day until someone moves in or until I can find someone in the campsite/trade plaza :'D Super tedious, but I have really bad experiences with random move ins.

Yeah I may start with a new save file every time to keep safe lol I really don't want a random move in!

I thought they could move in as soon as a few days. I usually keep my town on the same day until I adopt someone new.

You can start a new save file each day and repeat but at least by the 5 or 6th day youre going to for sure have a plot placed somewhere. Even if you create a new file by then a plot with be in a new place with a new villager because the game must keep 9 villagers and get the 10th from another town. or you can time travel to 6am and stay in the same day over and over until you find a villager you ant to move in from someone else.

There is a 3 days period after the 9th move out when no random move-in is allowed to plot.
