Question regarding trees

hellooo i just wanted to know if i plant a fresh tree sapling and surround it with furniture, even if its one item directly adjacent to it, will it grow? for example, putting a lamp behind a tree sapling

Well no, you have to make sure the tree has enough open space for it to grow. If there is like something blocking it like furniture you mention it won't grow. So if you want to move the tree in a spot where you want it, you'll have to eat a fruit and then dig up the tree when its fully grown, then you can plant it in the area where trees don't normally grow.
