Question on clearing my villager void

Oh wow! So they die when they move out and their spirits lingers to the innocent visitors... indeed that's creepypasta material! :p

I came up with a great one for my original town (now deleted) when my villagers in a certain part of town kept disappearing (actually moving out when I got lazy about the game). It had something to do with a creature that lived in Resetti's drain that would come at night and steal away the villagers - a bit like the Grendel of Beowulf fame. :p

This might be a tricky question to answer...a villager pinged to move, I said yes, then saved, quit, booted up and did the grass regrowth trick. Of course the villager was instantly gone, but where? To the void? for a month? (I TT a month ahead.) How long do they stay in the void if you don't clear it? Does anyone know this? Inquiring minds want to know...

I've been doing some reading on the internet (blogs, forums, etc.) to see what I can dig up, and it seems that if you don't go online (visit another town, streetpass, etc.) the moved out villagers can stay in your void for as long as it takes until you do.

On another note, I found some anecdotal accounts that a voided villager moved into a town with 10 villagers when that town had one villager in boxes. So I wondered how much data saying voiding villagers doesn't always work was based on that kind of situation.

Of course, I now have more questions than before...

About that one, I know: a villager in boxes will not be there the next day, adopted or not, so the game counts it as an open slot and thus it's possible to receive a voided villager if someone visits your for the adoption, for example, and their void isn't clear. So the only way to be 100% safe is to have 10 villager with no one in boxes. If they're set to move but the date has not come yet, it's safe. :)
Also, yes, I believe there's no warranty for the void - they'll stay there... waiting.. forever.........
