question about villagers moving out

I'm wondering how long you have to wait before you can search for new villagers again. If I have a villager in boxes today, will there be new ones on the mystery island? Also, is it possible to invite villagers from other towns to move in at this point?

No, you can only invite new villagers when there is an open plot!

Once the villager in boxes moves out the next day, the plot will be empty (like when you originally set it up) and you can island hop for villagers since they will appear again until the plot is filled. You can ask villagers to move in from other islands at this point too. You just have to have the plot open and unsold!
