Question about villagers in boxes

Hi, if one of my villagers is in boxes and I invite some friends to take him or her to their island, does that work only for the very first person who speaks to the villager and invites it? Or any number of people can speak to the villager and have it move to their island? Thanks

Only the first. After that, the villager is gone from your island and their house says, “I’ve moved out” when you try to enter it.
