Question about villager fetch quests

So, Eric just asked me to fetch him a butterfly of some sort... at 9:30 PM... >.>

My question is: Is it best to deny them the request if you know you can't complete it, or is it best to accept? What will make them less sad?

There's always the Emperor Butterfly on the Island. Pretty sure that's the only reason they bother asking annoyingly. I tend to accept anyways, regardless of the loss of friendship. :/

I've heard that it is better to decline a request than to accept it, then don't fulfill it, but I'm not sure.

Well, if I was a villager I would definitely be more disappointed if you accepted my request, then didn't fulfill it, more so than if you just straight out declined it.

Ah. My island has no flowers/bushes. I'll have to hit up a wifi island or put some flowers out. Thanks for the tip~!

They don't seem to care when I accept their request then proceed to ignore it. It's annoying that you will be stuck with it for the rest of the day if you don't fulfill it though. Requests like getting a fruit for them is simple enough since I have fruit trees all over my town.

I usually decline when I'm in a bad mood, regardless of whether I know I can fulfill it or not.

There's actually a few ways to catch bugs without needing to go on a wifi island.
You can try a random tour where catching bugs isn't part of the goal. Usually bugs you're looking for will roam around hopefully.
Butterflies will spawn only if there are flowers around, so you can also steal some flowers from those tours and plant them on your own island.

i've heard that you lose friendship if you accept and don't fulfill, but i always do that and have received pictures from all of my villagers practically. i just feel so awful saying no. . . but yeah haha
