Sorry for the noob question.

I'm about to TT out a villager for one that I'm looking for. However I plan not to pick up my new villager for a while (haven't located her yet). I'm slightly worried about picking up another villager by wifi/streetpass.

So am I guaranteed to not get a random move-in as long as I flip off the wifi switch as soon as I have less than 10? Or is there some way for this to happen based on who I visited while I still had 10 villagers?

When you have less than 9 villagers, then it is possible for a random villager to move in at anytime. If you only have 9, then the game sort of lets you pick the tenth and final one, either from the campsite or another town. You could literally have 9 villagers forever if you never pick a tenth.

Let me know if that answers your question or not :)

I am uncertain for how long villagers linger in the void after you visit (or are visited by) a town that has voided a villager - but this is definitely a way of getting an unwanted 10th villager.

I have inherited a voided villager when someone came to pick up a boxed villager from my town. I had 10 villagers, they picked one up. They didn't tell me they had just voided a villager and that villager set up plot in my town the very next day before I ever had a chance to go pick up the new villager I wanted to adopt.

Yep, my fear exactly. I'm thinking maybe I'll just turn off the wifi, void the villager, then only turn it back on to pick up the new villager? Not 100% sure if this would be fool proof. But then I'd possibly pass the voided villager to the person I'm getting the new one from...yeah it gets complicated.

pretty sure a villager wont move in the day after one leaves, but a random villager will definitly come within a week

if u are up for it, u could time travel so its the same day to give u more time to collect ur wanted villager..

A villager CAN move in the next day if you have picked one up from the void.

The game will NOT give you a random 10th villager (as this one would be for the OP) - the 10th villager will only come from campsite, adopting from another town or wifi/streetpass with someone who has voided a villager.

The game only gives random villagers if you have less than 9 villagers and in that case, yes, not likely to be the day right after a move-out.

Original Poster: Do you know how to plot reset? If you don't already have 4 player houses in your town, you could start the day after your villager moves out with a new save file (new player) and check to see if you got a voided villager. If you don't find a new plot, terrific; if you do, at least you could reset until the villager house lands in a good spot. If there isn't a plot, I would still put down your new player's house and save the game ... you can delete the house later.

i totally agree with rainyinvancouver and also i never had a random move-in and trade with ppl when i had 9 villagers. i guess it one of those thing you play by chance but it easier if you have 10 villagers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think just using the internet in general can give you void villagers? Like when visiting's someone's town, you can give them your villagers in the void?

Not if you clear the void by going to a town full with 10 villagers tht why ppl always have void clearing theads

OP's question was if simply turning off their wifi would prevent random move ins - They can't guarantee other people have cleared their voids.

So in saying that, ams shouldn't let anyone visit their town who hasn't cleared their void (best way would be not to have visitors or visit towns at all? )

Thanks for all your input guys! Good to know I'm not the only one confused about this :P

It is still also chance based, I think.

Clearing voids is not a fact. I have heard cases where it works, but I have also heard about and experienced voided move-ins despite void clearing.

My sister and I visit each others town on a regular basis. We both had 10 villagers. Then I voided a villager (Drift) and picked up a new villager the next day. So we were both at 10 villagers for the next 3 or more times we visited eachother. A few weeks passed and one of my sister's villagers moved out. I visited her, and the next day she had Drift's plot... The next day Drift told her he came from my town...
So this incident makes me very sceptical about the whole void-clearing method.

Good luck with your villagers =) I hope it all works out for you!
