I believe some of you watched the latest Nintendo Direct video. they mentioned that SMG2 (and other games) will be available on eShop and will be playable using the gamepad. my question is; does the game have be downloaded from eShop in order to be playable using the gamepad controller? I'm asking this because I already have my physical copy of SMG2 and would really love to try it using the Wii U controller. has anyone tried it?

Yes, downloads and physicals will work I have played Mario Kart Wii on my Gamepad as the screen, but a regular Wii controller must be used to control the game. Any input from the Gamepad does nothing.

I believe this applies to all physical Wii games.

Oh, I also have the eshop download for SMG2 and it works the same as physical Wii games. The Gamepad can be used as a screen to play away from a TV, but a regular Wii controller is still needed to control the game.

oh man that's very sad :(
I wanted to be able to play with the gamepad because my Nunchuc which is a priority to play SMG2 really sucks and I can't find an official one in stores or even in amazon, sigh

Nintendo said for other games (not SMG2, sorry) that originally used the Classic Controller can be played with the Gamepad, so I think you could use it with Metroid Prime Trilogy. (Not sure, never owned it, but plan in getting it.)

In regards to digital copies of these games, only games that supported the Wii Gamepad will work with the Wii U gamepad.

I'm not sure whether Super Mario Galaxy 2 supported gamepad but for examples I know of:
- Twilight Princess wouldn't work with the Wii U gamepad because it never had Gamepad support in the firstplace. It was all Wiimote.
- Xenoblade Chronicles would work with the gamepad because that game did originally have Wii gamepad support.

That's how it came across to me anyway with their description.

Whether physical copies of the games will support the Wii U gamepad, I really doubt it.

They would have to release updates and patches for the Wii versions of these games for a start, as well as getting the Wii U gamepad to work/be recognized whilst in Wii mode since as of now all it does is function as a second screen whilst in that mode.

I really can't see them going through the effort of doing this as the only real way I can see this working would be for them to 'release' something that lets you play Wii games without having to go into Wii mode on your Wii U, which I can't imagine being a simple task. It seems like something that would have to be done by default with the console rather than some sort of 'app'.

This is kind of the downside of having a 'Wii mode' rather than the Wii U playing Wii games by default.

all I'm asking for is a legit nunchuc which can't be found sold alone where I live. and all the ones in amazon and ebay are fakes, how are we supposed to play the game? :/

You can find some brand-new Nunchuks for $19,99 USD at Nintendo Store. There are also refurbished ones for 10 bucks as well, but there's a slight risk of getting one that will eventually stop functioning.
