Edit/ confirmed to work!!! So if like me you forgot some paths someplace you can TT back to the day before the villager plotted and lay down more paths even if you've already stared plot resetting!

So I replaced flurry for marty, and I've been plot resetting for hours but he just keeps going into the few places I forgot to place patterns in. Someone on tumblr told me that I could TT to the day before he moved in (so yesterday), and lay down more patterns and then TT forward again. I want him in literally the same spot flurry was in so I know it's possible to have a house in the space I want.

Is this really possible? I've never heard of this so I just wanna confirm TTing back won't make his plot permanent.. I obvs haven't played as any of my characters on the day he plotted yet.

I'm sorry, I did a little research and couldn't find anything helpful ; w ; but I do remember reading somewhere that it was possible to TT backwards without the (new) villager's plot showing up

Sorry! I hope someone with more experience with this answers your question. Good luck <3

Well, tting the day before he moved out will make his place permanent!
I think what the tumblr person meant was, move a villager in, tt to the day before they move in and places paths, tt to the day they move in!
I just did the place pathing all in one day before I did any cycling and with flowers I left a line of flowers, replaced paths with a line of flowers and repeated till all the space I wanted was finished!
I hope this helped! ^-^

Sorry I might've worded my question a little wrong, I meant TTing to the day before he plotted. I've already started plot resetting, the person on Tumblr said it was still possible to TT back to the day before the plot (which is also the day flurry moved out) appeared to lay down more patterns.

I know before the update this would make the plot permanent, but I wasn't sure if this has changed post update.

Oh! It hasn't changed

Wow I think it's actually possible now! From another thread on here:

Hey, something I tried yesterday: I put patterns in the wrong spot while plotting marshal, so I took the chance and tt'd back to the day I got him (make it 7am to be safe) and not the day he was due to plot, low and behold he wasn't plotted and I had the power to place paths so he would plot where I want, so I set up the paths and tt'd to the plot day at 5:58 am, and plotted marshal where I wanted him! but don't worry, I tested and tt'ing backward then to plot day doesn't count as actual days since its not past 6am and you haven't saved past it, plus you can do it multiple times. you don't have to place paths everywhere, and I had tons of yellow benches so it only took like three trys, but if you really wanna do this method use this layout, the X's are the paths. people say that you can do them 3 blocks apart but that doesn't work with my experience. houses have to be 2 blocks apart on the side and top from pwp's rocks, etc, and 3 blocks from where the door is gonna be, trust me, I know. also paths can be placed directly near plots but not under them, anyways I hope this makes sense and helps!

XOOX
OOOO
XOOX

And I've read some other ppl saying the same thing on other sites
I guess I'll try this, if not since I have his card and another amiibo card villager I wanna move in anyways, if it doesn't work I'll just boot him out and reinvite him lol

I've done this several times and the most recent was when I invited Maddie by scanning her card.

Like for example, I asked her to move in yesterday in place of one of my other amiibo villager. I save and quit right after (for the day). I didn't make any changes with my paths because I wanted her to move in the exact place of my villager who's now in boxes.

I opened the game today and before loading the mayor, I thought I wanted to move Maddie's plot in the same place but hoping that she would move one space upwards. Initially, it wasn't possible because right after the villager in boxes leave, the only space left would be where the previous house was that only has 3x3 space. But I've changed my mind and wanted the plot to move, so I TT'd to the previous day (the day when I invited Maddie and saved) so I can fix the path. So yeah, the previous house was still there and didn't see any plot of Maddie yet. After fixing them, I save and quit. Then I move the date to the current day using the system settings and loaded a new save file to make sure that her plot would move a little. In the end, I have her where I wanted her to be.

Yes, you are able to TT to before he plots and place designs. I've done this before. As long as you travel back to before 6 AM on the day that the villager plots, you can place designs. When I was plotting Cookie she kept moving ONE space ways from where I wanted her, so I went back to before six, put some designs, and waited until it was past six to continue.

As long as you haven't loaded your game with any of the existing characters on the day his plot is supposed appear, I think you can still load the game (the day before), lay more patterns down and plot reset on the next day by changing the DS system clock. Just make sure you don't go past 6 AM or load the game with your characters.

Wow!!! Thank you guys so much for the confirmations!! I'm gonna do this tonight and maybe post on the acnl Reddit FAQ master list since a lot of ppl there (and here) seem to not realize this was possible and this would save so much time if you forgot to lay down some patterns!

Yes it's possible, I've done it several times, as long as you haven't loaded up on your mayor since yesterday it's fine. Just make sure it's before 6am today nothing will be locked in
