Question about outfits offered to the villagers

So I was wondering how does it works exactly ? Can you give them multiple outfits or do they only wear the first you offered them ?
I gave Boots a hat and a shirt he wears all the time, then later on I gave him a tank top but he never wears it, he just displays it in his house like a decoration.

I gave Kevin a few shirts and he swaps them out periodically!!

I only gave Felicity one outfit so far, but she still swaps it out with her original outfit for the game. She also has a yellow ribbon she wears sometimes and sometimes not, so they can store several outfit choices/options. I think it depends on it's an outfit type they would normally wear, and since it can be placed like furniture, there's a chance they could use it in their homes instead of wearing it.

They have favorite styles and colors which probably determines if they wear an outfit often or if they leave it rotting in their closet. Kind of sucks when something different looks good on them and they don’t want to change into it sometimes. It’s cool they have likes and dislikes that determine how they act though, it gives them more life.

The tanktop was black like the shirt I gave him, and since he's a jock I though he appreciate the tanktop with a dumbbell on it lol, but maybe it's because I sent him via mail too...
I offered an outfit to Deidre that I thought perfectly fits her, she told me it's not really her style but still wears it all the time !
