Question about bush starts

So I keep trying to plant bushes in front of my house but they keep dying.
How much space do bushes need to grow?

Bushes need at least one space between them and a building/rock/pwp/cliff/river, but can be right next to each other and trees/bamboo, but you can only have 12 bushes/trees/bamboo in a chain. The thirteenth bush wont grow

I think 2 space away from the mailbox.
