You know how for a villager house, there needs to be an extra space in front of the door? I'm just wondering if there is a buffer zone area for the door, too? I hope that makes sense

What exactly do you mean by buffer zone though? Like the space where no designs or things can be dropped?

I'm a bit confused about your question, but the buffer zone for a villager's house looks like this exactly:

With the orange being their house + door and the green being the buffer zone.

This is what I have found to be true. 1 row of buffer along the North (back of house), East & West, but 2 rows of buffer along the front. So a villager's house takes up a 5x6 area.
