Question about 16-villager cycle...

Is there a way to tell how far a villager is in the 16 villager cycle? Right now I am trying to get a villager out of it so that I can adopt them again. I've lost track of how many villagers have moved out after they did, but this villager is in Main Street. Is there any significance with what shops they are in?

Yes I understand this. I meant, how far into the cycle the villager is. For example, perhaps a villager in the Able Sisters is farther along in the 16 villager cycle than a villager standing outside in the street.

Neither have I, but it seems like villagers usually are outside after a while, and then they usually move into T&T Emporium, then GracieGrace, then the Able Sisters... but it could be random instead.

I don't think what shops they frequent is an indication of how far along the 16 cycles they are. I don't know of any way to find out how far along you are. I usually write down the villagers who moved out so I can keep track. The only way you know for certain that you've gone through 16 is if you stop seeing them on mainstreet or if you try to adopt them and they accept.
