Both are forms of currency on this site. 10 seashells are given to new members- there are no other ways to obtain it.
Bells, commonly abbreviated as tbt, are the main form of currency here, and can be used to trade with other users for ac items/services, art etc., or buying collectibles from the shop. You earn a small amount by posting in certain forums (excluding the basement and introduction boards I think), or through participating in any future site events. Other users can also send them to you e.g. if you set up a selling or service thread.
