I'm trying to block villagers from a section of my town for my future orchard but I don't want to spend a lot of money on the yellow benches so I'm trying to maximize my money by placing the PWP in sections. I know villager houses are 3x3 squares... so would i need to space out my PWP with 5 squares in btwn? or 7? does anyone know?

A house is a 3x3 square, but there's also an "invisible" square that sticks out in the front of where the door is. It counts as part of the house. Here's my attempt of typing what it would look like in graph paper:
.__..__..__
|__|__|__|
|__|__|__|
|__|__|__|
___|__|

A house has to be at least 2 spaces away from a PWP; it can't be any closer than that. So when placing a PWP, think of it as reserving not only the space of land that it covers, but also two spaces around it on all sides.
For example, a streetlight would reserve a 5x5 square: the 1 square it takes up, and two extra spaces on all sides. When placing another streetlight nearby to help repel houses, place it so that a 3x3 house (+ the space in front) won't fit in between the two 5x5 squares that the streetlights reserve.

To put it shortly: PWPs arranged in a horizontal line have to have at most 6 spaces between them so that a house won't fit between the PWPs. Any more than that, and a house will be able to squeeze in between the PWPs.
PWPs arranged in a vertical line have to have at most 7 spaces between them so that a house won't fit between the PWPs. (because of the space sticking out in front of the house)

You could always try the reset trick if its moving in villagers thats the problem. This way you could make sure that they arent actually in your future orchard area. Just a suggestion. :o
