Back on NL I'm currently trying to get Muffy to replace all of her regular rococo stuff with the gothic black set. With NH I'm not currently trying to redesign anyone's house partly because I can't buy back the stuff I dont want them to display. Another reason is I kind of like of current villagers I have house designs. So are any of you purposely giving your villagers items that you want them to use/display?
Not really, as for the most part I try to leave my villagers houses as they are (it is their house after all), since most of my villagers already have pretty cool interiors. Plus, being able to decorate the inside of other villagers houses would kind of also make them less unique (although i'm sure many other people would love to do this). I do love using doorplates or flower wreaths on the outside of villagers doors though, the inside of their house just feels to sacred to play around with (and in my villager trading days, this also made them no longer original which would be pretty bad).
I only give the villagers with the basic homes. Usually I try to give them some of the items they'd have if they had their real house! Otherwise I don't give loads of furniture.
It's funny because back in the day I bought Muffy in NL and when she moved in I discovered that all her furniture was gone, so I had to gift her most of the rococo stuff to get her back to 'normal'...
Anyways, somehow I feel it was easier in NL to gift them furniture and to get them to display it as I wanted. In NH they might put stuff you wanted in a table just in the floor (I'm talking about you Diana) or just change anything but the one thing you want them to not display..so I mostly try not to gift them anything.
I would love to have other options to customize their decoration, or improve how it works in the game atm.
It depends on the house/villager. I haven't tried to replace full furniture sets, but I will try to give items to accent it if I have stuff in my catalog that makes sense.
Lolly's favorite color is pink, so I gave her some pink items (books/plant/guitar/record player). Her hobby is music, and sometimes she plays the acoustic guitar when I visit her.
On the other hand, I have Raymond and haven't really known what to give him besides a record player.
I've been trying to redesign Mac's house cause he was one of my original 2 villagers and his house was bare. I've gifted him so many different sized items but his house is just a mess of stuff now. I'd get someone to hold Mac for me & invite him back to my island so his house resets but I'm trying to get his photo still and I don't wanna lose all our friendship.
The villager doesn't always put the item in their house so it didn't work out the way I hoped.
I probably won't. I don't really care about the interiors of villager's homes, to be honest. I'm fine with them having whatever items are given to them originally. On top of that, I've heard too many stories of people attempting to modify villagers' house interiors without any success (or in many cases, just making the original problem worse. It's just not worth my time; I'd rather spend it on doing other things like ordering items or selling turnips.
Scoot is one of my starter villagers so his house is kinda dull which is why I have been giving him a ton of stuff in hopes of redecorating his home but he won't display most of it lol
I've done this twice, though for different reasons.
With Teddy, he was one of my original two villagers, so his house was incredibly plain. I gave him some items (yellow sofa, wood-burning stove, moss ball, yucca plant, portable record player), and he put them all out. His house still isn't fancy, but it at least looks pretty cozy now, and luckily he put all the furniture in good spots (ie. there isn't anything facing the wall or anything weird like that).
With Zucker, I adopted him from a friend and it turned out she had gifted him a bunch of ugly, random tabletop furniture items. So I'm trying to fill his inventory with iron wall shelves so he'll eventually get rid of his tabletop items. At that point, I'll be able to gift back all of his original items that he should have.
Though with both villagers, I didn't really feel like gifting them was a risk because I could find Teddy again for pretty cheap and move him back in if the furniture had messed up his house, and I'm not super attached to Zucker and plan on letting him go eventually anyways. If it was a villager I really wanted to keep and couldn't easily replace, I wouldn't risk trying to replace their furniture, since I think A) it probably wouldn't work, and B) may well end up looking terrible.
I want to mess with whitneys cause before I realized they displayed what you gave them i gave her an anatomy model to get it out of the way. now its in her house and i have to figure out which items will replace it if i gift her
I usually don't give my villagers furniture, mostly clothes. I have gifted Antonio a pull-up bar and punching bag, and I crafted Poppy a bed with rose sheets because I thought she'd like it! Sometimes I gift them small display items, like mugs and flower pots and such, but I don't actively seek to redesign their homes
