So I have recently been trying to breed purple pansies, but when I went to look around on the internet, there wasn't a lot of clarity on how they are bred, what works, and what doesn't. And unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there.
Today I did breed my first pair of purple pansies, though, and so I am making this post so that others will find it when they, too, try to get these flowers.
Here's how I did it:
I went for the "special" red pansy method, where you first breed red pansies with a certain ancestor.
These ancestors would be blue and red, or blue and orange, or orange and red.
At no point have I been able to spawn red pansies from only blue or only orange pansies.
These fancy pansies (heh) have then been bred together to create the glorious purple kind.
This was my setup:
I put the flowers down like this. Since I suspected that the special pansies would have to have a blue and red ancestor, all the red pansies have four blue ones to breed with. In addition to that, I put down a few orange ones to be safe.
With this setup, at no point could the red pansies breed with each other, so no ordinary pansies could spawn.
Basic breeding tricks.
Here's what you can do to speed up the breeding:
- Only water the flowers that you want to breed to speed up the process.
The beautiful town ordinance will prevent all other flowers from wilting when you put it in effect.
- I didn't play much in the evening, which is generally when my villagers start watering other flowers.
See the first point.
- I buried fertilizer in the spot behind the orange pansies my mayor was standing on.
As you probably know, this increases the chance of flowers breeding.
- I always saved and quit in front of the field, and checked on it first thing when I started playing.
This was to prevent my villagers from coming over and planting their own (usually red) pansies in my field, which did happen occasionally.
Got fancy pansies? Good!
As soon as I got my red pansies, I started watering them as well as my breeding field. After only four days, my first hybrid spawned!
