Punchy the Scammer

While talking to Punchy, I was given the option to buy something. (Okay, normal)

'An apple', he says. (Also normal) 'for 3200 bells!' (WHAT?!?!)

The game gave me the options 'That's too expensive' 'I accept (or something)' and 'No thanks'. Of course I wanted to see how much he would lower it, so I said 'That's too expensive'

'Fine, 2300?' (...?? For an apple. A single apple.) Again I was given the option to say it was too expensive, and I did.
'1300?'

At this point, the options were either 'okay, thanks' (or something), or 'No way!'

Long story short, have you had an experience like this, where a villager attempts to sell you something for an absurdly high price? Or a weird item that you hadn't expected?

I can always tell when an Uchi hoses me selling me an item because she will start singing afterwards. I buy whatever they’re selling, even absurdly high prices like Punchys apple because I can afford to treat myself! And also I think it helps with friendship.

It's happened to me twice. Once was several months ago and there was a more recent one where the villager offered me a shirt for an absurdly high price which I was able to negotiate down. (On a side note, I always forget that I can give uchis stuff for free sometimes and I hit A before I read the other options.)

I didn't end up buying it, as I had spent my bells elsewhere right before, but I did write him a letter and gave him a gift. (Sorry Punchy >n< ) (usually I do buy whatever they're selling, even at high prices)

mira talked about her PRIZED astro tv and asked for a bunch and i was a newb and thought it was rare since yknow it was PRIZED
found out it was common and got so pissed at her, but couldnt stay mad as she IS my birthday twin and cute as heck

I don't think I've ever seen a villager ask for so much for a single piece of fruit. Usually it's the paintings that fetch high prices from them.

That's kind of funny because Punchy is in my own town and he tried selling me furniture that I GAVE him the day before for a high price.

I find that any villager selling a rare painting or sculpture is usually a scammer! I've bought paintings from villagers for more than it would cost to buy it from Redd, thinking that my friendly neighbors would never scam me into buying a forgery and then, OH LOOK IT'S A FAKE! I've stopped buying those from them, especially when some villagers will ask for over 7,000 bells!

They're all scammers, every last villager.... Except Fauna I've found. After I tell her no to her crazy price she's all like "well, since you're my friend how about I just give it to you for free?"

In one of my towns Peanut just offered to sell me a blue chair for 2100 bells. I said no and she gave it to me for free. (Just to add anecdotal accounts to the TCs query.)

Normal villagers do that with items They're so nice, they'll offer it for free! Even when you go to their house, they'll offer the item you want to buy from them for free if you decide not to buy at first.

whats cute is that marshal NEVER sold me a fake painting - out of four, all reasonably priced but one, they were ALL genuine but with my uchis they always turn out fake lmao
at least the crankies warn you youre risking your cash, so i always buy it cause theyre sweet about it

Uchi's are always out here scamming, but I always buy whatever any villager offers me. I love when you give Uch's the freebie though, their cute adorable dancing is so worth it. I really love it when they try and sell you something that you just gave them and they try and sell it for an insanely high price. These villagers are ruthless, the only ones that are nice about things are the Normal villagers. Fauna has never duped me.
