PSA: Don't let villagers buy things from you!

At least it's a pretty butterfly, and the lid matches the color of her lily music player! :)

Does this mean I could get their picture anytime? I think I've reached level 6 with Canbarra. She did not give me her picture while she was still a resident. She asked to move, so I let her go. I thought she would send me her picture the next day, but she didn't. Please educate me. Thank you.
Unfortunately, you can only get their photo when they're still on your island. You get their photo randomly when exchanging gifts or when you win a challenge against them. They must be at level 5 friendship before their photo can be a possible reward.

Here's an excerpt from that friendship mechanics guide:
"Obtaining Photos
Once you reach favor level 5 with a villager, you have a chance of receiving a photo from them. It is possible to receive a photo in exchange for giving them a daily gift, as a reward for a quest in which your performance is good, in exchange for giving them a tier 2 or 3 birthday gift that they do not already own, or as a reward for a delivery when the recipient doesn’t just give you the delivered item.

Your chances of receiving a photo from one of those sources is equal to your friendship points divided by 25. For example, when you’ve just reached favor level 5 and have 150 friendship points, your chances of receiving a photo are 6% (150/25 = 6). But when you’ve maxed out friendship at 255 points, your chances rise to 10.2%."

I got kind of lucky, got Flora (my all time favourite villager) from someone for free because she had accidentally been gifted a horrific comedian outfit. She would wear it CONSTANTLY, which was annoying but not the end of the world. Then earlier this week she asked me to buy it from her and I haven't seen it since. So in circumstances like that, maybe there is hope?

I don't care what they put in their house. But if it bothers you, you could buy the thing they got rid of and gift it back to them.

ellie bought a sea bass from me and patty bought a flea, it did not occur to me that they would display them. the sea bass tank takes up a lot of room and the flea is in an upside cup on the dresser. its funny if u click the cup the flea bounces up and down. the sea bass bothers me more cause its so big. and i really regret giving cobb a diner neon sign, its so big in his house but at least its against the wall

I don't do delivery or anything that involves giving something to my villagers. This has been my practice since New Leaf. I just don't want to mess up their homes.

I learned this in NewLeaf long ago, so I knew what to expect coming into NH. Whenever they ask for fish/bug requests (so uncommon) I ignore them and also won't sell anything to them unless I really want to. It junks up their house and makes it look like a warehouse eventually.

One of the worst things they got rid of was being able to have visits to their home. They'd ask you to check out their home and then when inside you could buy something of theirs. I did it all the time to fix the mistakes I made.

I only played NL for a couple of weeks when it came out and I had no idea this was a thing! This would be the most humane way to control their furniture 😂

My villagers always ask for this kind of stuff, so I feel bad if I let them down. I did turn down a villager buying my tape radio, but still.

This is awesome. I never thought about this. I only bought what I wanted to put in my home. lol
For NH, I actually don't miss this mechanics. Though the visit usually took place at the next 15 minutes, I just kept forgetting and it was always the case when I was about to log off. Thank you, I don't need to do this anymore.

I mean they could always change up the way the visits were done. In fact, sometimes they asked me to visit my home or theirs right away and would follow me to whichever one it was. That's normally when I bothered to buy something back

Beau was very sad when I wouldn’t let him buy the Alpinist Overalls in my pocket. He even prompted me with an “are you sure” option after the first time I said no.

I checked his preferred clothing list on Nook Plaza after and it wasn’t on there. I wouldn’t mind if it was something the villager actually wanted, but the randomness of requests just feels like RNG 🤷‍♂️

Accidentally sold Julian a dace and dreaded it popping up for days. Thank god he never displayed it in his house.

The randomness bothers me too! If they requested things that goes along with their style, then I may consider giving it to them. But when Raymond asks for my mariachi hat, that's when I'm like :cautious:

Personally, I like that they display what they buy from you and the gifts you give them. Shows that there is a connection there. I try to gift things I think will match that character and their personality. Seeing it in their home makes me feel kinda good!

I don’t have the heart to say no when they ask for things. So now Diana is displaying a flea in her home, lol. Not my taste but if it’s what she wants then so be it!

Noooo, don't do that! Apparently, you don't lose friendship for flat-out refusing them, but you do for failing. They usually say, "Yeah, you're right, I need to catch it myself!"
I don't care. I have high friendship with all of them anyway.
