PSA: Don't let villagers buy things from you!

Generally I'm willing to give mine one or two bugs/fish if they look okay, especially since they'll rotate them around occasionally. Sandy asked me for a crawfish that was in my pockets once and I think it actually looks good where she has it sitting on her counter. Adds a nice pop of color. Ursala paid at least Flick's price for a peacock butterfly from me, so naturally I took the money.

But if it's smth like a flea... maybe I'll do it for Clay, but anyone else idk

I think one fish or bug can look really cute in a islander's house, but I agree that it can be annoying when they replace their best furniture or their house becomes crowded with them

aw, yeah. i agree it can be a little disheartening but i find myself agreeing to give/sell/catch anything they want just to make them happy.

I would feel the same, except that there is no rhyme or reason to the things they want. The game just randomly picks an item from your inventory for them to buy. That's why I'm annoyed 😂
Honestly I kind of like it, it shows that we're interacting and I'm having an effect on them. It's like a visual version of them now remembering things you've said in answer to their questions.

I thought I wouldn't mind, but they replace their perfectly decent furniture with random bugs and fish until their house makes no sense from a practical or design standpoint... Rosie trashed her accessories holder to make room for not one, but TWO loaches on top of her dresser. Never again, smh.

I just wish we had more control over our villager's houses :(

I gave Stitches a wooden bed and a wooden table thinking he would replace his already existing bed and table with them, but nope, he put both the bed and table in his house alongside the other bed and table. the first time I saw it, Sherb was in there too though so I came up with the headcanon that they were having a sleepover

eventually I managed to replace the table with a cushion and the bed with a futon but they could at least improve the AI of the villager's decorating skills or let us have more control. I also gave Sherb a photo of Stitches and he put it on the floor and replaced it with a piece of clothing the next day ;;

Ha. I sold my sea bass to Marshal and think it looks quite nice in his house! Kinda like an aquarium in a very stylish home.

me omg i accidentally gave him a sea horse but at least the container's pretty cute! it went beside his couch so i barely notice it (and when i do it's not an eyesore at least T_T)

I share an Island with a 7 year old so I’ve given up a long time ago any kind of control over what’s displayed in villagers houses.

I really wish there was an option for displaying it like how when you do delivery quests they give you an option for wearing the clothes. Maybe something like
”Can I buy your bug/fish for xxbells?”
”yes”
*pays for bug/fish and takes it*
“yay! I bet it would look great in my house what do you think?”
“ya it would” or “dear god no don’t even think about it”

gave wolfgang a carp. he has it in his house and everyday it is in a different spot in the house.

I learned this in New Leaf. The only things I've given my villagers in New Horizons is fruit. Except that one time I accidentally gave Apple some little decorative item. I don't know why I didn't bother resetting when that happened. My brother gave Mott, Pashmina, and Al some fish, even though I told him not to.

It would be great if they asked us to help them decorate their house. Like when we reach max friendship or something. I mean, they let us move their houses anytime and anywhere, surely they should trust us to help with interiors too!

I think most the fish tanks and bug container look pretty in this game, so I dont mind too much, unless its like a fly or something.
If you avoid any type of interaction that could alter their interior, you miss out on half of the villager interaction. Just FYI, they can display the items they get from other villagers too.

I gave Wolfgang a Koi and he got rid of his toaster for it. It now takes up half of his counter. I notice he moves it from one counter to the other from time to time.

I also gave Muffy a fishing rod thinking she would use it, but nope she displayed it in her house. :( I didn't know they would do that with tools...

I try to only give fruit now unless they're in a starter house - then I let them go crazy.

I've always been cautious letting them buy anything off me because of how it ruins their home. It seems like they didn't fix the horrible interior designing mechanic in ACNH as it was equally frustrating in ACNL. It really annoys me how they choose to put items that should be on top on tables on the floor  Or the fact that they don't let us easily swap out furniture with our thoughtful gifts. I like to give my villagers clothing items for gifts but it's upsetting when they replace my 44k tennis table with a pair of sunglasses...

YES this! I honestly wouldn't be as annoyed if Diana put the butterfly on top of the fireplace or the low table; it just looks so sloppy on the floor of her otherwise elegant house

When that happened to me, I didn't think twice about it either and said yes. Now Dom, Stiches, and Chief all have fishes and bugs displayed in their homes and I am not a fan. Safe to say, lesson learned. Now I just say no. Even if it potentially kills friendship points lol. Isabelle, give us an option to complain about their homes please so they can remove it!! Nintendo, make this idea happen. We NEED it 😂
