If there is another thread like this please direct me to it and I'll close this one. I searched and didn't find one.

So I'm thinking about getting a PS Vita. If I decide to I might buy it for myself for my birthday or sooner.

I'm unsure though. It seems a bit expensive...and the fact you have to buy separate memory cards is weird...

What do you guys think... Do you have one? Do you like it? Is it worth it? What games do you like playing?

thanks for the feedback!

i guess just post opinions/personal experience here.

I've owned one for a couple years now and I will just tell you now not to buy it unless you really want the current library it has. Sony has pretty much abandoned the system. While there are still a small amount of titles getting released during the year, they're usually nothing extraordinary. I enjoy mine just for playing Japanese like titles such as J Stars Victory VS. +, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment, Freedom Wars, Project Diva f 2nd, and more. The console is not the only thing that's pricey. Try looking up a 16 or 32 GB memory card for the system. It's equivalent to a full priced console game.

Don't get me wrong, the PS Vita is an excellent system. It's just that it's been neglected and isn't getting the attention it deserves. Had it been a popular system, perhaps Persona 5 would have gotten a portable release on it. So my point is, don't get it unless you're okay with how it is now and are willing to invest a lot of money into it. You could almost get a Wii U with the cost for a Vita + 32 GB memory card.

I don't think Sony is the best at making portable gaming systems (PSP was meh, PS Vita doesn't look any better). I would get a PS4 instead if you have enough money. The library coming out for it is pretty fantastic (Rime, The Last Guardian, No Man's Sky, a bunch of Square Enix stuff, etc).

The screen on the Vita really puts the one(s) on the 3DS to shame. I wish Nintendo would use quality screens like that for once.

I mainly use my Vita for PSOne- and indiegames. Don't expect to get any AAA-games.

Honestly the Vita is a quality handheld that Sony put out to die because of memory cards. People complain about only getting a 4GB included with the purchase, but the day one edition I got didn't include any memory card. Saved up and bought that $100~ 32 GB sucker. There's plenty of good games and it sees occassional support (Xcom and Civilization Rev 2 are on it/coming!), it's mostly Indie/Japanense game machine. So if anything NIS/Atlus and a few others decide to localize really intrigue you, it may just be better to wait on a good deal or something. Places keep clearancing out a lot of Vita stuff so you're bound to eventually find a decent deal on one.

I love my Vita and it's a real shame Sony killed it. From console games on the go to PS4 Accessory to "What's a Vita?" They just screwed the pooch.

The funny thing about them is they're so dang tiny you could accidentally swallow it and not notice.

Exactly why I hate messing with mine. Also it's a real shame 64 GB memory cards are faulty, I considered upgrading briefly before finding out some games don't work with it and people report higher failure rates for adopting them. :(

Aw, that sucks. Do the 32 GB ones work without fault?

I haven't heard of any games not working with the 32, plus mine's been going since launch so I'd definitely recommend it.

Thanks! I've gotta get me one of those. Hate having to erase games every time I get a new one. :/

im okay with getting a system for a only a few games and there have been a couple that have caught my eye so far, though i always forget them so not gonna bother mentioning specific titles i wanna play at the moment. but ya, i figured it would be better for japanese games?

ill only get it when there's a huge markdown, meaning when its old and there's a ps5. i still got my ps3 and it was 2nd hand lol but i love it.

The Vita has a solid library but it's not too big. And it's never getting any good games in the future so like DarkDesertFox said, if you're interested in the current games on it, definitely get it.

I've played almost all the good games on the Vita so it's pretty much useless for me. I just use it to remote play on the ps4 and even that is really uncommon. If you need any recommendations for the system if you get it let me know.

You can easily snag a used one for really cheap

Don't buy a vita. I work at GameStop and nobody EVER buys em. They are at the end of their lifespan and Sony is cutting support for them. I would wait for the next Sony portable but I have yet to hear anything about one. The likely hood of it being backwards compatible is slim to none based on a few other Sony products but if there are a few titles you just NEED to have then go for it. But that steep $200 price tag for a mediocre portable gaming device is just not worth it to me. You are better off just emulation on your pc or just sticking to 3ds. At the end of the day it comes down to what you yourself wants. If you are drawn to it and it appeals to you then you should buy it.

I was actually wanting to sell mines because I dont use it often...
I dont think you should get it though - in the end I felt like it was a waste of money. I only got it for Persona 4...

Yeah, I don't recommend getting a Vita either. I barely touched mine outside of playing FF10 and 10-2. I use my 3DS more then I used my Vita.

Over in Europe major retailers aren't getting anymore Vitas in despite there being a little demand for it, so the big to do right now is whether or not Sony is stopping production of Vitas in favor of PS VR. While ultimately Sony hasn't done much in the way of Vita support outside of some system updates, the writing on the wall is grim considering that Remote Play was PS Vita's sthick and now PC/Mac/Phones can do that. While I think it's safe to assume games will still be pumped out by Indie Devs and Japanese Publishers, I don't expect future updates improving the Vita's quality of life.

I've owned a PSP, but not the Vita (didn't even bother). I think Sony should just stick to consoles honestly, because handhelds seem to not be something they're good at. The screen on the Vita is pretty good (I'll give them that), but not much else is.
