hi first of all idk where to write this, im sorry if the thread is placed under a inappropriate place.

ive been thinking lately, as i am playing new, leaf which is a?? six year old game?? on a discontinued console, that i essentially have to buy a switch + new horizons. i know it seems silly but its like, new leaf is old, the console is old. theres nothing new coming for acnl, its been abandoned and theres nothing wrong with that. thats why i feel like i need to buy the new game if i wanna continue to stay updated with animal crossing, but i really cant get into new horizons. okay okay i havent actually played the game but i watch lets play n stuff and it just dont truly seem like a game i could get invested in. i might be wrong, it could be an amazing game. but still, i feel as if its time to move over to a new console with a new game?? do i make sense??

also dont get me wrong, i love new leaf and im having plenty of fun with it, im really not getting bored with it yet.

do other ppl feel this way or am i just weird??

Animal crossing is one of those games that’s best to just experience. I personally can’t watch anyone play animal crossing but the game is actually fun.

If it is a game you could see yourself getting into then sure go for it, but don't feel pressured just to stay updated or to have the latest version. I wouldn't justify just getting a new console for one game I may or may not like. I'd say invest in a switch for other games and not just focus on Animal Crossing, that way if you do get the game and not like it at least you can still have use for the console. It's normal to feel like that and considering everyone I know seems to be playing it over New Leaf that feeling to be included is really high. But try to put those feelings aside and get the game for you, not because of pressure.

As someone who plays both New Leaf and New Horizons they have their differences of positives and negatives.

that's kinda true, i like to put streamers on the background while doing things, but i definitely think it's a game you can't judge before you play, hence why so many people think it's boring until they actually play it

I understand how you feel. I haven't moved on yet from New Leaf, but I do sometimes feel like I'm missing out on the excitement. There are still a fair number of us on the New Leaf board, but most of the action is happening with New Horizons right now.

I wouldn't let yourself feel pressured to buy the game if you don't think you'd enjoy it, though. Buying the console and the game is a huge investment and your instincts may prove to be right.

That's why I've held off on getting the game so far. I'm waiting until at least a year or so to see how the game evolves since they're doing it via updates. I want a more complete picture of what I'm spending my money on. And to be honest, nothing right now really stands out to me except the graphics. I've never liked crafting in games, I would likely pass on terraforming since I'm not much of a landscaper, and I really don't care about putting furniture outside. The one thing I do care about is villager interaction and I've seen so many negative comments about that.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is to do what's right for you. If you're still happy playing New Leaf, then you should play it. No, it won't get any updates and there won't be as many people to interact with online, but if you like the game as it is that's all that matters. And you can always get New Horizons later if you feel like it. I'm sure it will be a viable game for many years to come.

You aren’t weird - I feel the same! I love New Leaf, and I remember the first time I saw the advert for it when I was young. My first thought was “this game looks like it was made for me!” and I’ve loved it ever since! With New Horizons, however I never really felt any desire to get it, because it just didn’t look as exciting as New Leaf for me. It feels like you would run out of things to do very quickly, which still isn’t the case for me in New Leaf even after seven years! Maybe in a years time, I’ll buy New Horizons. But for now, I’m happy with the game I have. So, you definitely aren’t alone!

If your instincts are telling you not to buy, then don't buy! I just started a town on the Gamecube version a couple of days ago. There is no reason to play the current game if you don't want to.

In fact, as much as I love New Horizons, I think I enjoy New Leaf a tiny bit more. Enough to consider getting a 3DS XL and a second copy of New Leaf to start over with since I'm transforming Stardust into an all sheep town and going all out with custom design paths.

I was excited for New Horizons before it released and ended up hating it and quit a few weeks back. It actually made me realize I took New Leaf for granted, and I may or may not go back to playing that at some point. (I miss Club Tortimer...)

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying stuff that’s a bit more niche. I’m into a lot of things that aren’t mainstream, partially because, well, they aren’t. It’s easier to take in. You know what I’m saying?

I'm addicted to ACNH, but it's definitely a unique game in the series with great new features, and lacking in some of my old favourites features. I would suggest you try playing it on a friend's console if/when possible. You don't even need to get it anytime soon. There's going to be updates for the next 3 years or so. Opinions of the game are quite positive (mine included), but that could change later on. While there's not as many people playing ACNL as there used to be, there's still an active following and amount of people playing. As long as you're enjoying yourself that's what matters

ooh okay thanks for the replies. waiting with buying the game seems like a good idea, especially because they plan to release things in little updates. since im still a new acnl player i should just focus on experiencing that game first! im in no hurry to get a switch, thanks for ur inputs :D

i do have these feelings too, but i usually just think that new leaf still has a really nice community of older players, when acnh seems to be filled with... forgive me; children XD i know that everyone starts from day one, but honestly just playing new leaf makes me feel more like a part of a more welcoming and warm community.

also, badges! collecting those still makes me excited in the game. and honestly, i can't wait for the day when both of my towns are finished, and when i have all badges :-) then i can finally just... relax...

samee! i honestly really like "older" graphics, idk why. the new leaf graphics are kind of "pixelated" and they're just so cute to me. i also dread the feeling of having thousands of options on furniture to put outside. finishing my new leaf town took years, and there are only so many PWPs. i think the new leaf landscaping possibilities are almost perfect. not too much, not too little.

I definitely want it I just don’t want to buy a switch just for it. I’m hoping to get an older used switch when new ones come out.

ooh i feel the same way!! honestly all the possibilities with terraforming and putting furniture overwhelms me lol. also the islands are soo big. also i dont feel the crafting part either.

theres still plenty of things to do in new leaf so ill just keep busy with that and save my money
