Possible to block off part of town?

I'm finally breaking down and buying a 2nd cartridge so I can make a themed dream town. I had a great idea for making a part of town only accessible once you find the axe/shovel, but I realized it might not work since you can't grow trees right next to each other. Is there any way (without hacking) to block an area off so that you can't walk through it without cutting down/digging things up? Would it work to grow a row of alternating trees and shrubs?

The maximum amount of shrubs you can have in a row is 12, but this counts for trees, as well (i.e. you can have 6 alternating shrubs and trees together in a row). The makers of Animal Crossing introduced this limit so one could not block off a certain part of their town, so as far as I know, there isn't really a possible way of doing that without hacking your game.

I don't think so, since there's a limit on how many bushes/trees you can grow connected in a row.

no it's not possible without hacking. you have to have an opening every 12 (or something?) bush/tree that is connected. you can't place bushes or trees right next to the river or the edge of your town either.

You can however dig holes and i'm like 85% sure holes show up in your dream town and if you hide the holes it makes it difficult to get through.

but also isn't there a gyroid that you can get all tools from in the dream world plaza which would make it unnecessary to hide an axe or shovel.

I don't think that would be possible due to the fact that there are certain rules for planting trees and bushes. Here's a video that goes in depth of the requirements as well as debunking rumours of dead spots.
