I don't mean to cause offence, but I think towns with purely popular villagers seem kinda empty or common. Also, the same with dreamies, I think it should be who you like, not who everyone likes... What do you think?

I agree with the dreamies thing! Most of my old dreamies weren't popular, and I didn't care! I loved them!

I made a thread like this a few days ago, it was a mistake! Some people got touchy lol. But for me, I got caught up in trying to get all the popular villagers and forgot to just play my game. It's a lot better now that I let some go.

Yes, I just see people with marshal, Julian, ect and I don't mind if you have one or two on your dreamies list, met them, think they're cute, or had them before, but tbh, if you just want them because your town will then be more popular or whatever, that's just weird.
Be original!

i agree completely. i'm tired of seeing every town with marshal, stitches, julian, etc.

It's one thing to not like someone's action/opinion, it's another thing to look down on them and tell them to do things.

People obviously think their dreamys are cute if they want them in their town. For instance, I would hate to have Julian in my town because I don't like him and don't think he's cute, I'm not going to take him in because he's popular.
I didn't want Lolly because she was popular, it was because I had her in my old town and adored her.
It's not very weird to have a town full of popular villagers, some people grown on them and really start to like them, like me with Flora, Lolly and Molly. :)

I totally agree with the dreamies thing. However, I think the popular villagers are in a lot of people's dreamies list because they are well liked by them and everyone else. Lots of people liking them is how they got popular.

I totally agree about the dreamies. I believe you should have dreamies that you like, not just because they're 'popular'.
However if someone's town is filled with these villagers then it's totally up to them if they actually really like them. c:

At one stage before I reset my town, I had a lot of the popular villagers - Diana, Beau, Stitches and Julian, to name a few - and some I liked more than others. I asked the majority of them in because I liked the way they looked or their personalities, not because they were popular. I also let some of them go, too, before I restarted my town. Some that I have now - Marshal, Beau and Stitches - are popular, but I don't care about that. They were my dreamies because I grew to like them, and they make me happy. If popular villagers make someone happy, just don't visit their town if you don't like it or don't want to see them, because at the end of the day everyone plays the game in a way that makes them happy and want to keep playing.

You should get who you like, and let people get who they like instead of pointlessly criticizing them. Visit my town and you will see how it's not "empty" despite having some of the most popular villagers. (Hint: They are not so popular because they are popular (DUH), they are so popular because they are so cool and cute.)

The only popular dreamie I had planned was Diana, but not because she was popular. I really like the deer, and even though I am a tomboy I like her because she suits to snooty personality to a T. As for Marshal, he was a complete unexpected move in. I mostly just really like the squirrels in general, and his house placement is awesome! :) Rosie just kinda happened I guess, she showed up in my campsite and being a cat lover (and my favourite colour is also blue) I couldn't resist her. :) I hope to keep them as dreamies, but if they do move out I won't cry and try to cycle out 16 villagers to get them back. I will just find another villager that I like instead. But yes, people with 10 popular villagers is insane! I understand having 1-3 or so if you really like them, but having them just because they are popular is just stupid!

I may have some of the more popular villagers in my town, but that isn't because everyone else likes them, it's because I like them.

Holla, if someone has 10 popular (= widely liked) villagers they probably have them because they like them, not because other people like them. Chances are there are quite a few people who would like the most liked villagers.

as everyone said...

the definition of dream villagers means to want a villager deeply.

most popular villagers are liked because of looks/personality/nostalgic feelings. (unless they are new to new leaf uwu)

personally i think having popular dream villagers is fine, the real reason for this is to just enjoy the game and love all of your villagers.

I don't care about popularity, I just choose the cats I think look cutest/are great to talk to :)
However, coincidently, the majority of the cats are popular thus it looks like I just try to collect popular ones >_>
But I just love them all haha

I was fortunate enough to get Rosie and Bob as originals too :)

I agree~ At one point I had a large number of popular villagers (Marshal, Merengue, Diana, Zucker) but because they were so popular I didn't really get attached to any of them.. you know?

I just achieved the Perfect Town.

Though I made the mistake of not earlier giving it more consideration, I now more deeply realize that I need to have a better mix of the types of villagers, in terms of personality, that may reside in my town of Applewin.

My updated villagers (01.16.2013) are as follows:

Clyde (Horse): Lazy
Jambette (Frog): Normal
Pompom (Duck): Peppy
Scoot (Duck): Jock
Twiggy (Bird): Peppy
Broffina (Chicken): Snooty
Simon (Monkey): Lazy
Drago (Alligator): Lazy
Hans (Gorilla): Smug
Kidd (Goat): Smug

From the list, I have three [3] who are lazy; [2] who are peppy; [2] who are smug; and one each from the personality categories of jock, normal, and snooty. I can tell that I need to have more of a mix. This would, just for one example, have an effect on villagers' suggested Public Works Projects.
