Pond brainstorming thread

I partially chose my map because I liked the funky little clover shaped pond. It was cute but when I walked around the border trying to catch fish, my character would abruptly HOP an edge and scare the fish off. Here's what it looked like:

I thought I could fix it, make a nice moon or different kinda clover shape. Big mistake. I've struggling with it for days now. No matter what I do, I can't make it look natural, especially if I try to leave an island in the middle to put a statue in later:

Island too big, but it has nice rounded edges

Island nice and small, like the center of a flower/clover, but now it's too small to round off the edges and it's too square. I'm considering throwing up my hands and just trying to remake my original pond.

What are some of you guys' favorite pond shapes? Is it hearts? What did guys do to change your ponds, if anything?

I got rid of my ponds because of what you just said! When I started trying to change my pond or add a new one somewhere else, I felt like it looked too "artificial" and fake, it didn't look natural anymore t.t

I really like the designs you came up with, but I agree, they look "planned" and not "natural"... I try not to focus on other people's ponds because it'll make me want one and I know I'm never going to be 100% happy with it

Oh no! How are you going to get the pond fish? I would do a quick lil oval or something just for the sake of progression

I do have a small "pond" but to me it's just a square
It's big enough for one fish to spawn lol

I think a fountain would look really good in the center of the bigger island! Maybe even a Shell fountain would fit in the center of the smaller one?! Personally, I really like the symmetry! Maybe you could try adding a more natural pond somewhere else from scratch

Good luck with it, hope you get better ideas from people who actually know how to make a natural looking pond lol

if you make the outside of the pond bigger on every side by one block, you can have the first center look small and good and still be rounded!

my advice to make ponds/river/cliffs look more natural is to flat the land, make random holes, and connect them. Shut off your brain during making the holes. Humans look for patterns and symmetry and that's why they look unnatural.
Although I think it look cute like this!

I do my best to make my ponds Asymmetrical, it helps make them look more natural! It’s asymmetry is why your original pond looked more natural as well. I personally would mimic your original since you liked it but make it one tile larger and Give it a lil lopsided island to match! Also don’t be afraid to have skinnier bits of water, i find that also helps add to a more realistic pond look~

The tip to let go of symmetry is crazy, crazy helpful. Thank you guys
EDIT: I'm gonna leave it like this for a day or two and see if I hate it or not
