I'm currently trying to get a pokemon to kill brocks pokemon. In this case, it's Nindoran

I'm totally convinced this game is cheating. I was almost dead, and I used a potion to heal. I tried hitting the pidgey 3 more times, because it would have killed it, and it won't let me hit it.

The attack of Nidoran missed!

Go to Viridian Forest and find yourself a Mankey.
Train it until Level 15 - 20 so it learns Low Kick.
Fighting >>>> Rock.
