Pokemon X or Pokemon Y?

I'm buying my boyfriend a 3DS XL for christmas and he'd like one of the new Pokemon games but I have no idea which one to get him. I'm not very knowledgeable on Pokemon so I thought I'd ask you lovely guys

So, in your opinion, which one is better? (If there's even much of a difference, I have no idea haha)

There's almost no difference. The only ones being 1. a legendary exclusive to that game, 2. a few minor pokemon exclusive to each.
There's no difference large enough to make a big difference, so either would be fine.
