Plot/villager reset trick

I get how to move the actual plot but I get very confused at how you predict when a new animal is going to move to your town ;-; Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Made an account just for this question)

If you have 8 villagers you need to check everyday because a villager will move in randomly. If you have 9 villagers you only need to check if you invite someone in from another town, invite someone from the campsite or have recently used Wi-Fi.

You will know when a new villager is coming because you will see a plot of land reserved for a house somewhere in your town.
