I've heard of plot resetting but I've never tried it. The reason I want to now is because Marshal moved right on my path. I logged on with my mayor but I haven't saved yet. How do I plot reset? I know it involves creating a new character, but does that mean you have to go through the process of getting a tent every time?

Basically yes. Plot resetting is creating a new character, and when you hope off the train, looking around your town until you find where the villager has plotted. If you like where it is, go talk to Isabelle, then to Nook, create your house and save with Isabelle. Then load up your mayor and you're set.
If you don't like where the plot is, just push the home button, quit without saving and start a new character. Do the same until you find a plot you like.

You have to do this the day you know/think a villager is moving in. And you MUST NOT load up your mayor because that saves your town when Isabelle tells you "preparing your town". So I hate to say it, but if you've loaded up your mayor, Marshal will stay there and there's nothing you can do :(

You are screw already. First rule of plot reset? Dont enter with your mayor. Even if you dont save, it will be already there cause you already logged with him. And no, when you plot reset create a new character first, look for a plot, if you like the character and the place, talk to Isabelle, go tall to Tom Nook, create your house, go talk to Isabelle again, and save. Enter with your mayor, save and quit, enter with your new character, destroy your new created characer's house (if you want it).

If you don't like the villager/place, just reset by pressing the home button and closing thw software without saving.

Oh you have to have a space for a new character, if you have 4 you will have to destroy one home.

If you've already logged on with your mayor, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do. :( Isabelle's already saved your progress before exiting your house.
Plot resetting involves creating a new character so that you can check where the new villagers plot their house, and if you like the location, then you create a house (tent) for that new character and save once you're done with Isabelle. Then you can delete that character, if you have no use for them. If you don't like that spot, yes, you have to quit without saving and create a new character. That is why it is so tiresome sometimes, but it also pays off. :)

Well I already had my mayor on, but after I came out of my house Isabelle told people to rise and shine. Does that still mean I'm screwed?

I'm pretty sure you are. I have made this mistake many times before due to carelessness and I had to pay it by getting Hazel destroy my orchard. I learned my lesson: don't load up the mayor or there's nothing you can do.

That only means it is 6 am, and a new day has come. Nothing to do with this. You are screw.

althought it is interesting, what would it happen if you resett without save, and return time with the 3ds clock to the day before? does the house will appear? You should have experiment a bit. But I'm pretty sure when your town load the next day it will save the changes, and I think that Isabelle announcement is a way of loading.

well sometimes if you load up your mayor by mistake you can quickly turn it off and you might be saved but :/

TTing backwards any amount of time counts as a day forward. This means that if you travel back in time after loading with an existing character, the house still appears and it's still locked in place.

everyone says not to load up your /mayor/, what happens if you load a side character? i'm guessing the same thing, but i'm curious, since everyone seems to specify mayor.
