So yesterday, I was trying to plot reset Willow (she moved out while I hadn't played, but used her Amiibo card to get her back).

I was hoping to get her back in her old spot, but the gem rock had set up there. I didn't think this would be a problem, but I spent at least 2 hours resetting and she would not plot there. In the end I gave up and went with a spot that isn't terrible.

So basically, for future reference, can villagers move on top of gem rocks?

Nope, villagers cannot move on top of gem rocks. Hope this helps!

I had this problem while looking for a place to put a new character's house. Nook said a rock was in the way when there was a gem rock. I broke it with a different character and then he let me place a house there. It is so weird.

does that mean the gem rock is predetermined? like you can't reset its location the way you can reset plots?

The gem rock isn't permanent. It can change places whenever you reset. In my case, it doesn't respawn because I don't have any space for them. They don't go to spot where the new villager sets up their plot.

Thanks guys, that makes sense. Bit annoying that the rock decided to spawn right where I wanted her house but whatever.
