Plot resetting now working!

Hey so I used to plot reset villagers all the time with no problem now it's not working. Has there been an update the prevents this? What am I doing wrong?

Here's what I've been doing:
1) TTing to 5:55am with my mayor and save and quit
2) Log on with new character. I find a plot, but don't like the spot. I press power button and home.
3) I start ACNL up and make a new character. Instead of the plot being reset, the villager has moved in.

This is a villager I have received from a friend's town.

okay, if i'm understanding this right, it sounds like you already had a villager plotted in your town, so when you began plot resetting, that villager moved in. did you go and adopt the villager from your friend, or did you pick someone up from their void? because if the villager was picked up from your friend's void without you knowing, they could've plotted today without you noticing. so when you first tt'd to 5:55 am to plot reset, maybe the clocks still hadn't hit 6am yet, so the plot was still visible. and then the next time you plot reset, it was past 6 am, so the villager had moved in.

that's the only thing i can think of that would've caused this; a villager had already had a plot town in your town that you hadn't noticed/seen, and since you tt'd to 5:55 am rather than 5:58 you began plot resetting before a new day started. when that new day finally did start on the second time you started a new character, the villager was moved in.​

Yeah, the exact thing happened to me when I was resetting for Gaston, my mistake was having him plotted in already and then setting the time to 5:59 am, then the clock struck 6:00 am, the day his house becomes visible, and is no longer a plot. I was maaaad.

Ohhh okay this could be problem! It wasn't from their void because the villager has always been the one I invited to my town. Then I TT to the next day at 5:55am. Ugh maybe I should just wait till the next day and sign in with a new character and skip TTing to 5:55am with my mayor to avoid having the villager already plotted
