Soooo I traded for one of my dreamies yesterday, and I've been trying since last night to plot reset the little guy into Ankha's old spot, but he just doesn't want to go there. I know that it takes a lot of patience in some cases to get the spot you want, but this is too much.
I've had him almost move onto the spot I want a few times, but he doesn't line up with the walkway the way I'd like him to. Maybe I'm just being picky but I'd like his placement to be perfect since he is going to be a permanent villager, and I can't move the path around much to accommodate him.

I'm thinking that its because the silly gem rock just had to decide to want to spawn on Ankha's old lot that he's so reluctant to move there. It appears there at least 70% of the time.

Any advice? Should I TT back and put down paths/flowers to remove chances of the rock spawning there or what?
From my experience so far, I'm guessing that the rock spawns before the house does, so I think I need to do something about it.

Thanks everyone :)

Well, when I was doing the plot-resetting trick, a rock was in the spot where I usually have Nook build my character's house and he wouldn't build there. So, the same thing is probably happening, just with a villager's house. If you can TT back to yesterday without it setting down the plot, you probably have to to get rid of the rock. That is so annoying. I've taken to leaving the gem rock where it is if it's in a decent spot.

Ah yeah... honestly I should've left the rock, I TTed backward but I already broke the rock the day before. So of course you know it wants to now spawn in the one place I don't want it to.

I'm thinking I'll put something down to prevent it spawning there though, I'm just not sure which is the better choice, paths or flowers...

I would say put some path down. the rock won't spawn over the path, but also from my experience villager houses are more willing to spawn over path then flowers, idk why

Either one should work. I heard a rumour that Leif sells Rock B Gone out of the back of his shop. ;)

Ok thanks! I'll try that. And yeah I noticed that a bit too, he won't go on my large open area with hybrids but hes fine destroying my central path haha.

Can I just ask what is the plot resetting trick, how is it done? I have someone moving in soon and really dont want them moving into the wrong place.

With Pango I had no plot resetting required and even when I loaded up a new character, prepared to reset for hours, she had picked a perfect spot first try. NAILED IT.

...she's moving on the 15th, though xD;

I'd be willing to pay 10 million bells for one use of that Rock B Gone:p.

But yeah, plot resetting can be a pain. Does anyone know what affects the "spawn" location of plots? I was trying to settle Genji yesterday and kept getting the plot in the same few locations. I finally resorted to naming my characters different things and picking different appearance choices.

Probably actually didn't make a bit of difference but I thought it might so I kept doing it:D.

The day you know someone is moving in, you start the game as a new character and go through the whole routine with Rover. Walk your town and see where the plot is. If you like it, talk to Isabelle and Nook and save, and that locks the plot in place. You can then delete that character. If you DON'T like where the plot is, hit the HOME button and close the game and then go back in as another new character. Keep doing that until you are okay with the plot location. Can take one or two tries, can take hours, depending on how specific you are about where you want the plot.

Basically, before you load up an existing character for the day, you can choose "Create new save" and make a new character that will allow you to run around and scope out a potential spot for a plot to be placed. Since when you load an existing character the game automatically saves before you even get in the game (meaning the plot is placed permanently), but when you make a new one it isn't able to (so if you don't like where the plot is, you can try again).

The way I do it is:
1. Set acnl's time a few minutes before the next day using my mayor, then save and exit to the main menu. (I usually do like 5:57 am)
2. Wait until the new day
3. Create a new character
4. Run and find where the villagers plot is
5. If I'm happy, I'll place the new characters house and save with Isabelle
6. If not I'll exit to the 3DS main menu and repeat steps 3 and 4

Hopefully that helps :)

I've done that with camper resetting--changing my appearance. I don't think it really makes a difference. :o

There are certain quirks that can affect where the plot goes. I wanted Erik to go into a space right next to Mott, so I had a windmill destroyed the night before he was to move in (the windmill was gone on the day his plot showed up). No matter how long I tried, his plot would NOT appear there. I finally got sick of it and picked another spot and had Nook put my house on the spot where the windmill was, and Nook said, "We'll have to demolish a PWP if you want your house here." It was already gone, but the game THOUGHT it was still there, which was why it would never put Erik there. The lesson there: if you know in advance you want a villager where a PWP is, get rid of it at least a day before their plot shows up.

@Gummysaur
Ahhh thats such good luck! I have to say I'm pretty jealous right now :P

@Ras
Yeah I heard about that quirk! I made sure to have a day pass without Ankhas house there before I invited the new villager to prevent that problem.

they're always trying to move in front of the campsite. so tempted to throw temp pwps everywhere until my dreamies are done.

Lolly moved in before I ever tried plot-resetting and her location could not be better in any way. First of all, she moved in right beside an existing path. All I had to do was run a little extension over to her door. Second of all, she helped define what the "peninsula" she was on was going to be. I was thinking of putting the cafe at the southern tip, but her house made me change my mind. As a result, my cafe ended up in the best possible place. I saw Lolly when I was picking up another villager and had not heard of her, but I had to have her. It was only later that I found out she was popular. She's definitely popular for a reason, because she's a sweet little Lollybug. :blush:
