Please help me with planting these bushes....

I lost another 3 this morning and I don't know what I'm doing wrong
What rules are there about bushes other than they can't be planted 8 in a line or by a cliff/house/building etc?
I've got a whole line of 3 where for some reason they all died. And around my 3 houses I have at least one gap where a bush wouldn't take.
I wish I could put a picture up but my laptop isn't great.
Basically it's like this (F =flower b = bush t = tree O = bush won't grow here )

This is the flower/bush/tree layout around Eriks house. Deirdres is basically the same but the area where the bush won't grow is two bushes right of this one.

Can anybody help me? I don't want to keep wasting bushes

Can I get perfect town if I grow my flowers on the beach instead of in the actual town? I'm just becoming overrun so thought I'd move them out of my way (or most of them) but I don't want to risk not achieving perfect town....

uhh... I don't really know what you've done but you can't place more than 12 bushes/trees/bamboo in a row? so you need to leave a gap somewhere, i think

I know, but I've only ever placed a maximum of 7 in a row so that isn't the problem

If that's not the issue, maybe it's too close to the house..? A bush starter of mine also died this morning and i'm not sure why.. ugh

The one spot where it won't grow would connect both rows of bushes that are already there and essentially make a row of 17. you can't have more than 12 of a combination of both trees and bushes touching each other. It won't grow in that one spot because if it does you will essentially have 17 trees/bushes all touching each other when you can only have 12 max in a chain. You will have to leave a gap somewhere in there.

I've been seriously struggling with this and as bushes are difficult to get (like 2 a day unless I buy them on here) it's been driving me mad.
I was working under the assumption if they were going round a corner they would be fine. Then scratching my head as to why they're dying.
Thank you! Will have to do some rearranging now but it means I (hopefully) won't waste any more bushes!
