PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

So, does anyone have this game or are they planning on getting it? I've heard it's great and the differences far outweigh the similarities between it and Smash Bros. I have it, but don't actually get it until Christmas. Kind of pumped for it.

I just received Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale in the mail. It really depends on what it is you want out of a fighting game. If you are looking for a diverse single player experience that SSB offers, you will not find it. The "unlockables" are limited to your prowess in online ranking matches. I haven't had the chance to try that out yet. Story Mode is in the vein of Tekken. You receive still images narrated by the character you select for an intro and proceed into a battle with one opponent. The next battle is against two opponents. The remaining battles pit you against three opponents until your rival match where you see a short cutscene featuring your character and their designated rival: as I played as Ratchet, his rival turned out to be Jak, for example. The final battle is against a floating head named Polygon Man. You receive an outro following his defeat. There is a challenge mode, but I've yet to play that.

That aside, these are the things I admire:

-Combat feels more simplified and streamlined. Circle, Triangle, and Square each have 4 different moves; Circle, Circle+Left/Right, Circle+Up, Circle+Down, and so on. Evading and Blocking are handled similarly to SSB. There is no damage meter or percentage. Brawling opponents only builds your AP Meter. Once that meter is full you can perform a Super Attack (the attack itself depends on filling one, two, or three meters) the only way to eliminate your opponent's stock or gain a point in a timed match. This prevents players from spending time evading the match because fighting is the only way to win, giving the game a more competitive edge.

-DLC has been announced in the form of new characters. Downloading within two weeks of each DLC's release will be free. Characters that didn't make the cut may potentially appear later on.

I am pretty pleased with it. Easy to catch onto and enjoy if you have friends about. If not, there's always online play to keep you busy.

I've got it, but I haven't had the chance to give it a try yet. Been too busy with some other games so I've tossed it too the backlog for now. The beta was pretty fun though so I look forward to playing the final product.
