Anyone else here playing the game in a different language instead of your native language?
Normally, I prefer to play the game in my native language (German), but recently, I switched over to Englisch, not only because it's easier for me to recognize the names of the items and DIYs when I trade here in the forums, but also because I do like the Englisch names of the villagers and NPCs more than the German ones (the majority of the German names sucks so much, ugh). I thought at first it would be difficult for me to understand everything (my English knowledge is not 100% perfect), but it's actually not that hard.
I haven't tried it yet, but I think I'm going to give playing in Japanese a try. I haven't played an AC game in Japanese wince Wild World, and back then I wasn't very good so it took me a loooong time to read anything.
Now my Japanese is much better. Also, I think it'll be a good way for me to continue keeping my skills sharp since I live in the US now (instead of Japan), so it's hard for me to practice Japanese on a daily basis.
That's true that setting the game into English helps making wishlists for trading, and it also helps improve the language and learn some words.
I also played in Italian sometimes (my native language is French), but I'm always happy when I come back to French because, besides understand better the wordplays and jokes, I also have the impression that, in some villagers ways of speaking, there is something more in French I don't see in other languages. Like the way peppy villagers talk and write letters in New Leaf, it is completely lost when I play in Italian or in English. And I noticed the same things in other games like Pokémon (but I've only compared to Italian for those games)
Okay so I might just be stupid but how are you guys playing the game in different languages? Do you have to change the Switch language in system settings?? I tried to find a way to do this in the game's settings because it'd be a fun way to keep brushed up on my Japanese but I couldn't find it
