I know a lot of you have really nicely organized towns with paths and landscaping and flowers everywhere. How are you able to do that so well? Where do you get your abundant source of flowers? I'd love to make a town like that, but I'm not really sure where to start and what to do really. Any tips for people like me?

Well first of all I personally prefer to get the feel of the game and then developed my town somewhat already before focusing on designs. If you go on tumblr there are lots of people posting path designs and what not and that's how people get those nicely paved paths! As for shrubs and what not, you can get a lot of the starters at the Gardening shop once you have it (Not sure if shrubs appear before or after the T.I.Y upgrades) and most important of all is probably imagination!

Once you unlock the qr machine from Mable, you can use paths that other people made if you don't want to make your own. You can take a lot of the flowers from the island as well as some of the fruit from the trees.

Other than that it just takes a lot of time, planning, and testing stuff out to see if you like it. You'll eventually get your town to where you like it. :)

I've been trying to organize my town since the day the game came out, but my villagers move in and out every few days, so I'm always having to redo my flowers and paths and stuff =(

So I wouldn't stress about it too much. It'd be a lot of effort to maintain, anyway.

I have always planned out my towns very methodically since my first Animal Crossing game. My main concern in New Leaf was my paths. Once I had laid those out, I shaped my entire town around them. I made my paths connect to the all the important spots in town, like Re-Tail, the event plaza, and the like, so when a villager moves away, I don't have to worry about rearranging my paths. I recommend trying out that tactic for yourself.

I appreciate the posts in this thread. ヽ(;▽;)ノ

I've recently been trying to make my town pretty like the ones I see on tumblr, and it's been quite nerve-wracking. I don't have enough flowers, and I've realized how annoying rocks and ponds can be, etc. I've finished putting down a path that goes all around my town, but I'm not happy. I think it's because I was rushing. I finished in about 3 days, which I now doubt is the amount of time people put into beautifying their towns.

So yeah, for now, I'm gonna take it easy and get a feel of my town first, even though I've had it for a while. Don't rush like I did. >.<

Also, I think the people get their flowers by breeding them themselves, or by visiting the island and stealing them *cough me cough*.

i wasn't sure whether or not i was going to use paths when i started (i never have before), nor did i really focus on my town layout at the beginning or have an idea of what i wanted it to look like. i started laying down paths from my main landmarks just as like a test run and i really ended up liking them, but i worked on paths very slowly, adding another strip or two each day and building around how the town was sorta naturally developing. just take it slow and steady, because a pretty town takes quite a bit of time, so you might as well take your time and enjoy it rather than stress about it.

i ended up getting a perfect town WAY faster than i thought i would. it seems like it's much easier in this version -- especially with the beautiful ordinance, where you don't have to worry about flowers dying! and once you get the gold watering can, it's much easier to breed for hybrids. :3

With me, I just sort of... improvised. I like how my town's laid out and I actually enjoy having paths. It's still a WIP.

I waited until my animals had moved in before I did anything like putting paths down though.

Well my tip for getting flowers is to raid the island mini games for them, the gardening mini game in particular is good as you can grab violets and lilies there.

Find a path you like and use it to join up all the main points of your town and go from there. If you have a theme in mind then pick out public works that fit that. Having a theme might help give you some guidance too. Symmetry with trees and bushes can work really well. I think if you are really stuck for ideas go and get some inspiration from some dream address towns, see what kind of things and ideas others have used but then suit that to your own tastes.

I made a point to do a community project every day, and tried to lay them out in key areas so that there wasn't enough space left for animals to build houses where I didn't want them. (The first bunch of projects I did formed Mayor's Park - a nice park near my house to keep neighbors at a distance.)

I brought back tons of flowers from the Butterfly Discovery Tour on the island, and bought every axe that was ever sold in my town. Then chop chop chop and plant plant plant. Finally went nuts on some of the high medal tours on the island and bought a zillion (or more) hibiscus bushes to plant along paths - that helps keep people from wandering off the paths.

I don't use pattern paths, just let the dirt wear on the main pathways.

My town layout made placing down paths really easy. I place Community Projects along the paths so I won't have to worry about villagers plopping down on them, although two of mine manage to clip off a piece but I worked my way around that.
Got the majority of my flowers from island tours.

Go to the island mini game and steal all the flower >;D
and go watch some amazing towns in the dream suite for inspiration.
And then start deciding how you want your town.

I just make a path that goes through my town from all of the major places and to all my villagers home. As for community project I just place them where there's room and how it'll look with other stuff.
With new villagers popping in once in a while, I have to redo my paths often because they always decide to move right in the way of my path or trees. So it's a lot of changes and testing of what is possible.
