I want to tile my town, I am trying to place many tiles but when I change the design at able sisters, even when its saved it, changes on the tiles on my town... why cant I have more than 10 on the ground at one time?

You'll need a second (or third) character to use more than 10. As you've discovered, you need to have the patterns you want to display on you (or on a character living in the town).

To have more than 10 tiles out at once you'll need to create additional characters to hold, and place, the rest of the patterns.

once you place the tiles can you delete the character?
I don't believe so because thats where the patterns are saved ( with the character )
No, you can not place patterns and delete them. This includes the character holding them. You will also need to have the said "pattern slave" character talk to Mable for a period of time to unlock the patterns. However, I have found the patterns on museum signs do not vanish. I am not sure about public works signs and face boards.

I just want to point out that you only have to unlock the QR machine if you want to use patterns that did not originate in your town, just so there isn't any confusion.

I find it incredibly frustrating to have such limited space for custom tiles. Between outfits,paths,water,boards,custom room designs, and needing to keep last char spot open to stop rogue new villager plots, I have NO ROOM to do even half of what I want to do. Some of the cooler paths take 12 spots!!
