I havent got any metroid games and have only properly played the one on DS.

But the Magma guy had two little tricks:

1. could run through the lava on the lava arena without damage and therefore could hide there
2. if you go into the ball you can climb walls.

Yeah but the lava level is very expansive and you can hide in the lava away from close up attacks and just snipe :;/

Plus the Lava guy had one of the best close up attacks and his fire thingy burns a few people at once.
The only good thing with the sniper is that he can go invisble.

I know that, but everyone has there own weapon. And the fire guys is awesome
