to prevent any feuds or arguments, adding a buyout (like wolfgirl suggested) and an end-time is highly recommended!! i've seen SO many auctions go to shambles either because bidders go nuts with bidding or people get antsy about being outbid/not getting their villager at a good time. good luck with your first auction though and i hope merengue gets a loving home! :")
