I have an unusual amount of free time on my hands thanks to a surgery, and I am trying to find ways to entertain myself, as well as learn new things.

Do any of you know origami, and if so can you give me any advice on where to begin? I see origami kits online, but I just want to make sure I go in the right direction from folks who actually know the art!

Where should I start?

I haven’t done any origami in a while but I was really into it when I was kid. I’d check out some YouTube video tutorials since they show you how the folds work. :0 There are also some good YouTubers out there, like Jeremy Shafer (he’s pretty much the first person that came to mind lol). Practice is key!

Yay for origami!

I've purchased origami kits (which have come with a book plus origami paper) before. Some books are better than others, but I like to use online resources as well. The website I've used the most is Origami.me, which I like because I find it very straightforward, though someone else might know better resources! I also don't mind using YouTube if it has a design I like!

For choosing paper, it depends what you like! Paper can come colored on one side (and white on the back). Some paper has patterns on one or both sides. I like to get origami paper that is already square cut, with either a different solid color on each side, or a pattern on one side and a solid color on the other! I find these the most versatile (where having the paper white on one side can be less appealing with some folds). Paper can also come matte or glossy, though I don't have a preference on that!
