Yes they did, no more official online play for NL nor other 3ds games sadly...
But if you have a 3ds (I don't think it'll work with an emulator), you can try to get Pretendo Network, it's like an open-source project to continue online services, I think it's supposed to work with NL now. But it's not official or endorsed by Nintendo.

oh cool! i do have a 3ds, ive been playing new leaf and wild world lately. i know wild world servers have been long gone.
