Buying One red/white/pink Carnation

A friend gave me a red carnation since she doesn't do plant cultivation. So now I'm looking for a second carnation to start making baby carnations. Price, as cheap as possible. I'm still paying off my 2nd loan.

About the breeding, several guides say different things. To make a white I only need 2x Pink? So what does the red one do. What are the correct combinations of carnation breeding?

with red you can make more red (red+red) or more pink (red+pink). So with 1 red and 1 pink you can eventually have plenty of all 3 colors. But obviously if you have 2+ of each color you don't need to worry about that! I hope you got lea's!
