The Virtual Console, offering games from the earlier years of Nintendo along with the GameBoy family for a (very) fair amount of money, has opened my eyes for old school gaming.

What are your favourite Nintendo games from the Game & Watch series, NES/Famicom, SNES/Super Famicom, N64 and GB era? Which of the consoles has stood up the most to you? Which hasn't? Were they a part of your childhood?

Here are a couple I've bought from the 3DS Virtual Console and like:

The Mysterious Murasame Castle (Was JP only during it's day)
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

I wish to buy the Ultimate NES Remix for the 3DS someday and perhaps more classics, ex. Metroid or Punch Out!!.

We never really had a lot of money as I was growing up, and we still don't, but the general tradition seemed to be that whenever I DID have a console, it would have whatever Mario game was most prominent at the time.

My very first video game experience was Super Mario World, and then, some time after, Super Mario Bros on a Gameboy someone got for me.

Super Mario World on the SNES will always be my favorite older game. It's the first game I remember taking a huge liking to (I had a SEGA Megadrive before it, but it really didn't interest me much). We didn't have much money when I was growing up, so it's one of the few games I actually had as well, so I played it a lot. The only other game I remember having on SNES was Mario Kart, and I just know that won't have aged well...
I still play SMW fairly regularly.

The only three games I remember playing on GBA were Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion and Golden Sun. I think I bought them all because the front and/or back of the box looked cool. They were pretty much my first time playing each genre as well, so I remember them well (well, Pokemon was actually my first RPG, but Golden Sun was the first more 'traditional' "what I think of when somebody says 'JRPG'" game)

SNES and GBA were my favorite 'retro' systems. They were mostly sidescrollers and RPG's, as well as the sexy 16-bit graphics...Though most of the games I played years later via emulators and picking them up on the eShop when I can.
