I've just received mail from Nintendo for an update for the shop channel, but I'm not sure if I should do it because last time an update was sent out people were flooding these boards with stories of broken Wiis. Does anybody know if it's safe to update?

Yess I also have done it it's fine.
I'm not saying it's unsafe but just because it works for you guys doesn't make it safe to do.
It could be like a trojan and go unknown and suddenly effect you in a few weeks time, I'm sure it won't do that but just because you have no troubles doesn't mean that nothing will happen to other people. It's like with the other update, that effected some people but not all.

It still contains the boot2 update(Had to reinstall Bootmii afterwords), so if anything goes wrong during the update and you lose power/have to turn off the Wii because it froze, it WILL brick your console.
Nintendo's creating a lot of unnecessary trouble if they continue to distribute this boot2 file in all future updates. I don't see this problem ever going away, sadly.
