This is what I'm going to do now that I always mess up leaving my items.

Carry (at all times) your axe, your shovel, your slingshot, and your fishing rod. Now, if anything is rare at your place, you can easily get it with those items.

I stick my slingshot to a letter...but I think holding it with the hand is much more quicker.
