I swear, I have the worst luck with DS's

Today I opened my ds and... The screen is now partially off...
I'm really annoyed though as I probably won't be able to get it repaired under the guarantee thing I have as accidental damage isn't covered... (I've only had it since December)

Anyone know how much it would cost to repair (around)
DS Type: 3DS XL
Problem: Hinge snapped

You should ask the place where you'd get it repaired how much it would cost. Send the picture along so they have a better idea of what happened, since it seems more like a problem in the case, so it should be a fairly easy fix? That's seriously screwed up though.

I know :( I'm hoping it shouldn't be too much as, like you said, it still turns on, and it's only the outer casing...

Eh, they can't really prove it was accidental damage

I just OPENED it... I wouldn't even count it as accidental damage... I didn't drop it, I didn't bend it to far.... But then if Nintendo got it, they would say it was of my doing... With or without proof

I've had my gamecube lunged at a wall and it still works fine. You seem to be very unlucky with them Dx

I never had the hinges snapped off for me with my 3DS or any other DS model past the Lite.
My original DS (Yeah..That old thing) hinges did snap, but that was because I thought I had to damage my DS to perform the Debug mode in Mario 64 DS....yes, I'm a dumb kid back then ok?
Sorry on what happened, I occasionally get that moment when the 3DS is on...but the Screen won't show up...in-fact that's how my original 3DS' top screen color is glitched.

Could check Nintendo support website to check pricing and possibly see if it's still in warranty if you've registered it on Club Nintendo. They recently upgraded their support site though, so the process maybe be different.

I want to know why ym 3DS in in whole after CRASH...CRASH...CRASH...etc. etc. etc.

I was wondering how does the system even work if the hinge snapped off? How does the top screen display anything if its not fully connected to the system?
