Nooks cranny possible future upgrade?

Recently my nooks cranny had upgraded in game. I found it interesting though, how with the visual upgrade, and clearly more in store space, there was only the addition of one new item to be displayed in shop, and a few extra's in the cabinet. One thing I have always notice though is the little staircase blocked off by some baskets, and a rope. Is this possibly a hint toward a future upstairs being added into the game? Or is this just a little detail showing where the Timmy and Tommy sleep at night? I'd like to know your guys opinions weather you think we'll get an expansion in the future, and what it'll include. Maybe another Gracie Grace?

there are also tins of paint and there's much more space outside so yeah, i think so too! there have always been multiple upgrades anyway so i'm pretty certain there'll be more

that’s a really good observation! i always assumed that’s where they slept, but maybe gracie will come or just more space for furniture.

They've always had multiple upgrades, so I've always assumed there will be more in this game. We just have to wait until they add it in via a future update. I feel like Leif and Labelle are destined to get real retail space eventually and stop being visitors.

I don’t think labelle would fit in at nooks, though. she only has her fashion line, and hasn’t disclosed a furniture line, although that would be cool.

That staircase most likely leads to where Timmy and Tommy sleep. The first shop also had a door that possibly led to their bedroom. That said, if they follow in past games' footsteps, we should at least have two more upgrades. Maybe the last one will include Gracie again? I hope so, because some of the sets she sold were really cool.

I always assumed it was their little sleeping nook, but no doubt we will get more shop upgrades. It would be quite unprecedented, after all, if we didn't.

I just hope everyone who has designed around their shops with its aesthetics in mind consider what might happen if the exterior changes drastically when we do get an upgrade.

As someone with a forest-y town I dread the possibility of the store upgrading to look like the final version of the NL store.

I do want upgrades but it's going to sting if it becomes a flashy big mall type building.​

the fact that according to the official guide, we build up friendship with label doing her challenge does make me think there'll be something more there eventually.

There was a little footprint outside of the museum before it upgraded. If you look at Nook's Cranny, there is lots of space in the footprint where the storefront is. I would be surprised if it doesn't upgrade.

I think an upgrade is inevitable, mainly because of all the clues like you said and how past games always had a department store at the end.

I don't understand why the upgrade is called "Nook's Cranny" and not "Nook 'n' Go"...does this mean something??
